Here is a list of essentials to have on-hand that makes cooking a breeze between classes, homework, work, and having fun!

Spices in Jars


  • Ready to “almost” eat Rice Packages – 90 seconds

  • Ready to “almost” eat Pasta Packages – 60 seconds

  • Actual pasta (different types for variety…rigatoni, fettucine)

  • Cans of salmon, tuna, sardines (for the brave…they really are good, and good for you!)

  • Tortillas

  • Tomato Sauce

  • Tomato Paste

  • Canned diced tomatoes

  • Chicken and Veggie Broths (or vegetarian bouillon cubes work great)


Besides salt and pepper, there are a few key spices to have on-hand!

  • Garlic Powder

  • Onion Powder

  • Dried Basil

  • Dried Oregano

  • McCormick’s Steak Seasoning

  • Paprika and Smoked Paprika

  • Cinnamon

  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

  • Kosher Salt

Ketchup Bottle


  • Trader Joe’s Sweet Chili Sauce – perfect for stir frys, dipping heated up egg/spring rolls, combining with peanut butter for a salad dressing.

  • Worcestershire Sauce

  • Rice Vinegar

  • Red Wine Vinegar

  • Apple Cider Vinegar (not needed often, but you know, when you do…it’s good to just have it there. I don’t think it ever spoils!)

  • Sweet Cooking Wine

  • Sriracha

  • Oyster Sauce

  • Soy Sauce

  • Barbecue Sauce

  • Ketchup

  • Yellow, Dijon, or Honey Mustards

  • Green Dragon Sauce (Trader Joe’s)

  • Pesto (Costco)

  • Olive Oil

  • Sesame Oil
